The great winter bucket list

  • Hit the Austrian Alps for a week of snow, après ski and adventure.
  • Watch the Northern Lights from the top of a space station in Iceland.
  • Shop till you drop at the Christmas markets in Bruges.
  • Visit Prague and indulge in some of the best beers in the world.
  • Take on four languages, some of the world most epic waterfalls and the world highest railway station in Switzerland.
  • Get a dose of Berlin’s contagious night vibes at one of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties on the planet.

Tips for travelling Europe in winter

  • Bring a (very) warm jacket, waterproof shoes and dancing shoes – but don’t pack more than you can carry (about 15kgs is comfortable).
  • You can never visit too many Christmas markets – get amongst them.
  • Take advantage of fewer queues and tick off the big stuff (cue the Louvre, Anne Frank Haus, the real David).
  • Get social. Friendships made while travelling can last a lifetime.
  • Prepare for snow; practice your snow angels, establish the difference between snow and ice, and always think ‘layers’.
  • Oh, and did we mention flights can be half the price during off peak winter? Win win.

Winter is not to be wasted.
