Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas, Nevada
First things first. We'll kick things off in LA to start the road trip of a lifetime and drive through the cactus-scattered Mojave desert to reach Las Vegas. You'll go around the world 'Vegas-style', to see the Eiffel Tower, an Egyptian pyramid, the New York City skyline and Venice's St. Mark's Square. Then when the sun sets, board the bus and do what Vegas does best - parties.

Las Vegas

Day 4:
Grand Canyon to Durango, Colorado (via Monument Valley)
Today feels like a Navajo jeep tour kind of day. One that goes through Monument Valley. Even though it's a bumpy ride, you'd be forgiven for wanting to miss the bus, especially once you learn the stories of the mesas from our Navajo guide. But a night among Durangotangs (residents of Durango) awaits.

Day 5:
Durango
Hitting the white water rapids on Animas River is on offer today. Less bumpy options include hiking, biking and ziplining, and completely smooth-ride seekers can spot prairie dogs and cracking scenery from the Durango Silverton steam train in this gorgeous old mining town.

Durango to Albuquerque, New Mexico (via Santa Fe)
After a trip down Route 64 and a trip to Santa Fe, we reach Albuquerque where the night is yours to explore.

Albuquerque to Amarillo, Texas
First up,it's time to soar above Albuquerque with an optional hot air balloon ride. Then channel Banksy at Cadillac Ranch on Route 66 - an art installation of half-buried Cadillacs - where you'll get to crack out the spray paint and get creative on the tailfins of these all-American automobiles.

Day 8:
Amarillo to Dallas/Fort Worth
Cruising away from Amarillo, we're off to Dallas and the Fort Worth Historic Stockyards for a step in back back to the wild west. From the original brick walkways and wooden corrals - Fort Worth has it all.

Dallas/Fort Worth to Austin
Before we leave Dallas, visit the Sixth Floor Museum then it's off to Austin, the 'Live Music Capital of the World'. With a driving tour to get your bearings before you let loose on the town and feast on a Texan style BBQ dinner.

Austin
The city is yours today. Hello thrift shopping, Airstream cuisine (cooler than regular food trucks) and the ethos 'Keep Austin Weird'. Need more? Nudists, boot scooters, cheese makers and a cathedral of junk - just a few of the things you might see on your free day in Austin. And when you're done with the weird, there's Zilker Park and SoCo to check out. But be sure to hit 6th Street tonight for a live music smorgasbord.

Austin to Lake Charles, Louisiana (via Houston Space Center)
Catch some live music and maybe even try your hand (or more like feet) at Zydeco dancing after you've tasted the area's Cajun roots at tonight's group dinner. Prepare for spice, rice and all things nice.

Lake Charles to New Orleans (via Baton Rouge)
Before hitting the hubbub of New Orleans, get ready for the awesome assault on the senses that is New Orleans. After dinner, you'll be spoilt for choice with all the jazz and blues clubs. A good bet is to just hit up Bourbon or Frenchmen Street for live music every night of the week.

New Orleans
This groovy city boasts culture and history by the bucketload. You could browse the shops and stalls of the French Market, peruse the art and antiques on Royal and Chartres Streets and learn about the local brewing scene in NOLA. Swap one musical city for another today. After dinner in Memphis, there's only one thing to do, check out the nightlife. Best to make a bee-line for Beale Street and hop from one live music spot to another.

We head off for the Sun Studios Tour - the birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll - or switch things up a bit at the Rock 'n' Soul Museum. Later, you could grace Graceland with your presence and take the Elvis Experience Tour. Also, the National Civil Rights Museum totally deserves a visit too.

Day 17:
Memphis to Nashville
Anyone going from Memphis to Nashville knows that Casey Jones Village is the place for a pitstop. Pop in to the old school ice cream parlour and fill your boots in the 'Fudge Shoppe'. Head on inside to learn about historic Southwest Tennessee. Once in Nashville, you've got the afternoon to yourselves. Walk the line to the Johnny Cash Museum, or weave your way through the Honky Tonk Highway bars. Be sure to stock up on Goo Goo Clusters.

To keep the country music ringing in your ears, you could take a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry (the famous concert hall - book in advance), a self-guided tour of Ryman Auditorium, or hit up the Country Music Hall of Fame. We're motoring our way out of Chicago, heading for the bright lights of this nation's capital. Tomorrow will give you a chance to explore Washington by day, but tonight it's all about crossing that Potomac River into DC and enjoying an illuminated tour of the capital's monuments. The White House at night is a sight not to be missed.

We'll do a driving tour of Philadelphia to see the sights - you'll channel your inner champ at the Rocky statue, feel the love as you swing by the Love statue - before heading for the bright lights of the Big Apple.
